Wallonia-Picardy is vast green and welcoming plain, population 330,000, at the gates of Lille, Brussels, Mons and Courtrai. It is made up of 23 municipalities, two natural parks, (Pays des Collines and Plaines de l’Escaut) and 3 heritage and commercial towns (Tournai, Ath and Mouscron). It offers its inhabitants and passing visitors large open-air entertainment areas, miles of walks in a preserved and natural environment and many festive and convivial events.
Enthusiasts of heritage will be delighted. Tournai, city of 5 bell towers has a center rich in history and its Notre-Dame cathedral and its clocktower are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites. The musée des Beaux-Arts, Horta building, houses an important impressionist collection. But also : Ath, its medieval « Burbant » tower, the Giants’ House and its famous ducasse, itself listed as UNESCO cultural heritage. Lessines and the Notre-dame à la Rose Hospital, major heritage site in Wallonia. Beloeil, its parc and castle ; Enghien and its park, recognized as an exceptional garden.
